Taylor

Taylor Swift was a rarity in pop culture: she was the only superstar to have moved from the country to mainstream and then to be an international icon of pop culture. Swift left her country roots as if they were just a second skin to reveal that she was perhaps the savviest pop-oriented singer/songwriter of her time, someone who was able to harness the current zeitgeist and make it personal and also perform in the opposite direction. Her talents could be seen in her first tracks, including the neodue Tim McGraw. But on her second album Fearless that came out in 2008, she was able to discover who she is and find audiences across the globe. Fearless was hugely popular not only in the US which is where the Top Ten singles Love Story, and You Belong with Me helped it to break six platinum records however, it also swept the world. It performed particularly well in Canada, Australia as well as the U.K. Swift's Speak Now album released two years ago was a continuation of her earlier successes, propelling her into superstardom. She grew in popularity over the course of her subsequent three albums: Red (2012) 1989 (2014) and Reputation (2017). Swift was now firmly established within an industry she felt was hers to be. She stayed in the forefront of pop even when she dropped her style with her sibling albums Folklore and Evermore in 2020.
